![]() We are exposed to toxins continually in our world through the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the chemicals we put onto and into our bodies. Even with the cleanest diet and lifestyle possible, there are still toxins that impact us. I recently experienced an intense toxic exposure. I had been teaching in a portable. I work diligently to maintain my health, so when I developed a chronic cough and extreme fatigue, I couldn’t understand why it was happening. I didn’t actually feel sick even though I was tired; I just could not stop the post-nasal drip that was causing me to cough so much. Long story short, after spending nine hours a day in the room for four months, I learned that the entire air duct system of my room was coated and filled with black mold, and the air conditioner filter had not been changed for at least a year and was covered with dirt. I was having a hypersensitivity reaction to toxic, unclean air that I had been breathing for months. The doctor told me that had I not maintained such a consistently clean and healthy lifestyle and diet, that the black mold and other VOCs would have caused much more damage to my body. Essentially, I was lucky to only be suffering from upper respiratory problems, voice loss, and fatigue. WHAT I HAVE BEEN DOING TO DETOX MY BODY In order to begin recovery, I removed myself from the toxic environment and began to do detoxification work including:
These are actions that I would recommend to anyone. But if you have had a major toxic exposure and you are not already taking care to keep toxins away from your body, you have to start there. When my son and I first began our healing journey fifteen years ago, we had to deeply detoxify ourselves. Once our diets were clean and we were using only natural body products and household cleaners, we employed detox methods that included Epsom salt baths, activated charcoal, green juicing, dietary cleanses, broken cell wall chlorella, glutathione, and nutritional support. The hard part about dealing with a toxic exposure is that when you start noticing symptoms, the source is often unclear. But, if you know that you have been exposed to any chemicals, vaccines, medications, or unclean air, you will need to implement some detoxification protocols. Our bodies can heal themselves. But in order for them to be able to accomplish this, the source of what is making us unwell has to be removed. As long as elements remain present in our bodies (or energy systems) that are causing harm, our bodies have to work to protect themselves. All of this energy toward protection takes away from the energy that’s needed for our actual recovery.
